    Cumberland Island National Seashore

    Totaling 36,415 acres and stretching 17.5 miles, Cumberland Island offers an incredible array of wildlife and seascape. The secluded white sandy beaches are home to various forms of sealife. In the inland forests guests may see deer, wild horses, mink and armadillos. The island is located only 7 miles east of St. Marys and is accessible by a concession operated passenger ferry. The island offers activities such as backpacking, biking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and stargazing. Backcountry camping is offered on one developed and four primitive backcountry sites.     Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge

    The Okenfenokee National Wildlife Refuge is one of the largest bogs or swamps in the world encompassing more than 700 square miles with more than 400,000 acres of canals. Not just a 'swamp' this territory is an important habitat for many animals such as alligator, deer, black bear, many species of waterfowl and otter to name but a few. There is a Visitor Center located at the Folkston access to Okefenokee which is approximately 20 miles east of Kingsland. Recreational opportunities abound in Okefenokee and special events are frequently held at the Visitor Center.

    Accessible only by boat, Little Tybee Island allows visitors to get close to nature. There are no houses here, but marshes, forests, beaches and various animals live here instead. Camping is allowed on the island and charter services are available to help people get to and around the island, which is found south of Tybee.
