St. Marys Parks & Gardens
Totaling 36,415 acres and stretching 17.5 miles, Cumberland Island offers an incredible array of wildlife and seascape. The secluded white sandy beaches are home to various forms of sealife. In the inland forests guests may see deer, wild horses, mink and armadillos. The island is located only 7 miles east of St. Marys and is accessible by a concession operated passenger ferry. The island offers activities such as backpacking, biking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and stargazing. Backcountry camping is offered on one developed and four primitive backcountry sites. All camping is limited to seven days.
